- Can LEDs run from a 12V battery? Yes — that’s the whole point. Standard 12V LED strips draw 0.1-0.5A per foot. A 10-ft strip uses 1-2A — trivial vs a 12V fridge (3-5A) or diesel heater (5-10A). For a 100Ah LiFePO4, LED lighting uses ~5-10Ah/day for evening use, leaving 90Ah for heavier loads. Skip 120V AC LED fixtures — they need an inverter (90% efficiency loss).
- Dizziness from LEDs. Flicker is the usual culprit. Cheap LEDs with poor drivers flicker at 50-100 Hz, invisible to the eye but causes headaches, dizziness, eye strain in sensitive individuals (migraineurs, post-concussion). Fix: buy flicker-free / constant-current drivers (Lighting EVER, HitLights, Waveform Lighting). Cheap no-name Amazon LEDs are riskiest. PWM dimmers at low brightness can flicker; analog or 0-10V dimming is smoother.
